Normah Ishak’s career in the Royal Malaysian Police began in December 1991. She has been recognized as a “gutsy, brainy, highly qualified, and experienced officer of very high integrity and an excellent commander” by Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador. One of her first challenges in the role was dealing with the potential return of 65 ISIS militants and their families from Syria. On February 2025, Bukit Aman Special Branch CounterTerrorism Division (E8) Principal Assistant Director, Deputy Police Commissioner (DCP) Normah Ishak, has been appointed as Deputy Director of Special Branch II, with an acting rank of Commissioner of Police (CP).
